Cork floors are sound-absorbing and invite you to walk on bare feet

If you don't know cork, you are legitimately excused. The living natural material that grows as bark on cork oak can do much more than sit in the necks of wine and champagne bottles, as many may typically know it from.

Thorough sorting and processing forms the basis for an ecological substrate that is more elastic and structurally biologically sensible than most others. It helps to give cork floors some very characteristic properties, which are very advantageous as a floor.

The elasticity of the floor makes it super comfortable to walk and stand on. At the same time, the floor type has an excellent ability to retain heat, which makes it almost inviting to run around with bare feet.

The elasticity also means that cork floors are an excellent choice if you suffer a little with your back, knees or other joints. Because the floor is more elastic than other floor types, it will be less stressful for conductors.

Cork floors also have the great advantage that they are quite noise dampening. It thus produces no step noise and contributes to better acoustics in the room.

Fresh from the tree

There have been cork oaks in the western Mediterranean for over 60 million years. The fascinating trees are over 300 years old and grow in two directions. Inside is wood, outside is cork, which is carefully peeled manually at harvest.

With a 50% market share, Portugal is the most important raw material supplier in the world and cork production has a long tradition there. The tree must use between nine and ten years each time, until the bark again corresponds to the quality required for the production of floor coverings. The harvest does not harm the cork oak and many old trees have been peeled a dozen times.

Bring nature into the house with a cork floor

With a cork floor, you also help to invite nature into the house. Only the best material is used, extracted from the bark of the cork oak, which is further processed into cork floors - after all, you must enjoy it for a long time.

Now all that is missing is the surface treatment - then there is no longer anything standing in the way of the big show.

Cork floor - A floor for the whole house

When you buy a cork floor, you get a floor that can be used in almost the entire house. It is actually only in the bathroom and in other wet rooms that it cannot be used.

But in all other rooms of the home, you can easily use cork floors. In fact, the many positive properties make the floor type a particularly advantageous choice in many rooms.

Eg. in the bedroom, where it will contribute to better acoustics, while it will be super comfortable and warm to step off the bed with bare toes on the cork floor. Or how about in the children's room, where the soft surface will provide a good base for fun and play for the active children.

Cork floor - A multi-talent

Under pressure, cork becomes quite thin and shrinks by up to 40% - only to immediately return to its original shape. The approximately 60 million air cells that a piece of cork the size of a sugar cube has, make it as elastic as human skin.

Perhaps that is precisely why children love to play on cork floors. Allergy sufferers and asthmatics also greatly appreciate it. Cork floors absorb neither dust nor dirt, and remain ultra clean in the most literal sense of the word.

Cork - A raw material with history and future

Already in antiquity, the Egyptians, Greeks and Romans appreciated the elasticity and water-impermeability of cork - especially when it came to closing wine bottles and jars securely and tightly. In the last millennia, cork's uses have expanded greatly:

It is used for ergonomic sandal soles, acts as a float for fishing nets, for ecological insulation of roofs and walls and is even used as high-tech insulation material in the space shuttle.

And so it is used to produce the most delicious and comfortable cork floors.

Frequently asked questions about cork floors

Is cork flooring durable?

Because cork itself is not particularly hard-wearing, it is encased in a hard-wearing PVC layer, which gives cork floors many years of wear resistance.

Can cork floors withstand water?

Cork floors cannot withstand water to such an extent that they can be used in the bathroom and other wet rooms. However, you can safely use cork floors in all other rooms of the home.

What do you wash cork floors in?

Like other natural materials, cork floors are quite sensitive to moisture. Therefore, you must use a hard-wrung cloth/mop for floor washing. In addition, it is important that all excess water is wiped away immediately.
