Wiking Larch wooden floors

Larch wooden floor has a nice warm tone, which over time acquires a faint greyish tinge. The larch plank floor is lively and warm, and creates coziness and joy in both small and large rooms. Larch in its wood structure is denser than pine and Douglas fir, which provides a floor that is more resistant to nicks and marks.

Larch as a building material has an incredibly long life, and the beauty of larch wood is superior to many conifer and hardwood species. Larch floorboards can have both light and dark shades, and contribute to the interior, as a part of nature brought into your home.

Siberian larch is related to spruce, but unlike other conifers, the larch sheds its needles in winter. Larch comes from the deep forests of Siberia, which have grown in a very harsh climate, which means that the annual rings are very dense, thus larch forms a very hard softwood floor. Siberian larch lives up to 200 years and can reach a diameter of up to 130 cm. Siberian larch has a durability against rot that is often much higher than that of other types of larch.

Siberian larch is very oily and resinous, making oiling our favorite surface treatment for this type of wood.

Wiking Pitch Pine wood floor

This beautiful American pine variety is distinguished by being virtually knot-free. The vein pattern is strongly marked with light and dark stripes.

Pitch Pine, which has the Latin name Pinus Rigida, grows in the western part of the United States, where it is also called Southern Yellow Pine. The trees grow approx. 40 meters high and almost 1 meter in diameter, which makes it possible to produce wide and long plank floors from the tree trunks. In the past, Pitch Pine was an important source of resin and wood for shipbuilding, mining timber and railroad sleepers because the wood's high resin content protects it from decay. Archeology also indicates that Native Americans themselves used Pitch Pine, where, for example, the Cherokee used it in canoe construction.

The color of the wood resembles pine, the sapwood is yellowish, while the resinous heartwood is reddish-yellow to reddish-brown. Overall, this plank floor is a very stylish floor in warm tones. Fine cracks may occur in this type of wood upon delivery. Therefore, you must pay extra attention to care and maintenance, as well as the relative humidity.
