Few things are better than getting up to a warm floor on a cold winter's morning, which is why we are happy to be able to offer you all the elements to install underfloor heating in your own home. We have both heat distribution plates, underfloor heating pipes and much more.
Explore the entire range of accessories for installing underfloor heating and find exactly the elements you need.
Be sure of warm feet all year round
With underfloor heating, you are guaranteed warm feet all year round. You probably know the terrible feeling when you get up in the morning and the floor is just icy cold. This is in stark contrast to the delicious feeling that you probably also know when you step onto a warm bathroom floor with bare feet.
From its hiding place under the floor, the floor heating system sends heat and well-being up through the floor and out into the rest of the room. Regardless of which type of underfloor heating you choose, you will not be able to feel the difference in the pleasant heat that flows up through the floor.
If you have underfloor heating, you will probably also find that you do not need to have as much heat on the radiators. Where a radiator's heat starts in the middle of the room and moves upwards, underfloor heating starts right at the feet, which is why we will experience the room warmer when underfloor heating is present.
What types of underfloor heating are there?
There are two types of underfloor heating, water- or electricity-based, which can either be laid under the floor or cast into the concrete.
Electric floor heating
Electric floor heating works by a network consisting of electric wires generating heat by current flowing through them. Electric underfloor heating has the advantage that it is both quite easy and quite cheap to install in one's home. This is due, among other things, to the fact that the wires themselves that generate the heat take up a lot less space than the hoses used for water-based underfloor heating. You also get the same good heat from electric underfloor heating as you get from water-based underfloor heating.
The big disadvantage is that the operation of electric underfloor heating has a significant impact on your electricity bill. The operation is immediately 2-3 times more expensive than water-based underfloor heating. Electric underfloor heating is therefore best suited for small rooms - for example your entrance hall or a small bathroom.
Water-based underfloor heating
If you would like to replace or supplement your old radiators, water-based underfloor heating is a very good choice. It can help to provide a more even distribution of heat in the room.
Water-based underfloor heating works in such a way that hoses placed under the floor, which are connected to the house's central heating system, are filled with hot water. In this way, the pleasant heat flows up through the floor.
In terms of installation, it is more expensive than electric underfloor heating, but on the other hand, operation is cheaper.
Which floor types are best for underfloor heating?
If you are in doubt about which type of underfloor heating you can install in your floor, fortunately there is relatively free play. However, you should be aware that some floor types are better suited to underfloor heating than others.
If you want to get the most out of underfloor heating, the choice should fall on tiles and clinker . Here you will get a very pleasant warmth from the massive stone floors.
However, you can also easily lay underfloor heating under your wooden floor . However, you should be aware that wooden floors cannot withstand too much heat, as the floors will change in that case. At the same time, wood is quite insulating, which is why it must not be too thick, as too much heat would then have to pass through the pipes before the room will be properly heated.
As a rule of thumb, you should therefore expect that your wooden floor should not be thicker than 2.5 cm. if you would like to have underfloor heating.
When you buy a floor here at Gullvageter, it will also always appear on the individual product page whether the floor is suitable for underfloor heating or not.
