This beautiful American pine variety is distinguished by being virtually knot-free. The vein pattern is strongly marked with light and dark stripes. Pitch Pine, which has the Latin name Pinus Rigida, grows in the western part of the United States, where it is also called Southern Yellow Pine. The trees grow approx. 40 meters high and almost 1 meter in diameter, which makes it possible to produce wide and long plank floors from the tree trunks. In the past, Pitch Pine was an important source of resin and wood for shipbuilding, mining timber and railroad sleepers because the wood's high resin content protects it from decay. Archeology also indicates that Native Americans themselves used Pitch Pine, where, for example, the Cherokee used it in canoe construction.
