Product description & use:
Contact adhesive 281 is an all-round neoprene-based, light-flowing contact adhesive for gluing dense surfaces and for gluing where immediate high strength is desired. Contact glue 281 is particularly suitable for gluing wood, fibreboard and chipboard, plastic laminates, felt, natural and artificial rubber, leather, foam materials, concrete, glass, metals, etc. The glue cannot be used for polystyrene foam (flamingo), use the water-based contact glue instead Aquakontakt 287. The glue is water resistant and can withstand temperatures from approx. -40 °C to +70 °C, depending on the strength requirement. (Contact adhesive is a thermoplastic adhesive type, i.e. the strength decreases with increasing temperatures). By adding 5% Contact hardener 924, the heat resistance is increased to approx. +150 °C.

Physical / chemical data:

Consistency: Light-flowing
Shelf life: Minimum 24 months in unopened packaging when stored in a cool place.

Instructions for use:
Preparation:
The adhesive surfaces must be clean, dry and free of oil, grease, release agent, dust and loose particles. By adding 5% Contact Hardener 924, the heat resistance is increased. The usage time after adding hardener is approx. 24 hours. It is always recommended to carry out trial gluing to assess the strength of the gluing. Be aware that the glue can discolour / affect some materials. Therefore, carry out a test in a hidden place.
Dilution: Dilution may only be done with Thinner 954.
Application: Contact adhesive 281 is stirred and spread on both surfaces in a uniform thin layer, with a brush or notched trowel. For highly absorbent materials, it may be necessary to apply glue twice (the first time possibly with diluted glue). After glue application, the surfaces must dry until the glue is no longer contagious (5 - 30 minutes, depending on temperature, ventilation, materials etc.). After that, the items are put together exactly, as no further adjustment is possible. The items are pressed well together for a few seconds, possibly with a hammer or rubber roller, paying particular attention to edges and joints, and ensuring complete contact between the surfaces.
Application temperature: 5 – 30 °C.
Coverage: 3 - 5 m²/litre, with double-sided adhesive application, depending on the type of substrate.
Curing: The adhesive joint achieves immediate high strength. Full strength is achieved after approx. 4 days at 20 °C. At lower temperatures, the curing time increases.
Cleaning: Remove glue on the skin with soap and water, use pumice stone or soap with abrasive. Tools are cleaned with xylene or Thinner 954 while the glue is still wet. Hardened glue can be removed mechanically or by soaking in Thinner 954.
