Microcement , microconcrete, silk cement, polymer modified cement top layer, polymer concrete, polymer cement mortar. Dear child has many names and just as many different uses. The term Microcement is used in the Floor Industry and is a smaller layer of cement that can be added to almost all types of surfaces. Microcement is based on cement, but also contains polymer, which gives the material some completely unique properties.

2.4.2.1 Microcement
There is nothing new in the idea of mixing polymer and cement to enhance certain properties. The first patents on the mixing ratio were taken out in the mid-1920s and the use for concrete repair and decorative purposes took off in the late 1940s. Microcement differs from other cement-based floating mortars with its many building layers, low installation height and high content of polymer (liquid or powder). The products that are used today, for example for decorative purposes, consist of minerals in grain sizes from less than 50 mµ to approx. 700 mµ depending on what it will be used for. The finished surface can be rough and very structured or completely fine and smooth. Often, the structured, coarse surfaces are used at the bottom and the fine, smooth surfaces as the final layer. If the nature of the workpiece is suitable, the fine microcement can be used from start to finish. The application method determines the result on the finished surface. This means that all finished works are unique. If the product is applied the same way each time, there will be a certain degree of similarity, but as a starting point the result of two identical work executions may well differ in appearance. For reasons of ease of cleaning and preservation of appearance, the surface should always be sealed.
Areas of application
Microcement can be used as a surface on floors, stairs, walls and ceilings, etc. Microcement can also be used as a creative design on everything from private homes to public buildings, and it can be used both indoors and outdoors. Microcement is suitable for both new construction and renovation of older buildings, as it has excellent adhesion. There are individual microcement systems for wet rooms that have received MK approval.
Assessment of substrate
An important parameter for a good result is the substrate. Before a work process, the condition of the substrate must be carefully examined and checked for, among other things, cracks, loose areas, dirt and other separating agents. It is important - and common to all types of floor coverings - that the substrate is checked and complies with the manufacturer's instructions before the treatment is carried out.
